Here is a metaphor that provides a visual image of how manufacturing consent works…
Imagine a factory. It manufactures one basic product that it customizes to suit any need.
The factory is run by a group of engineers. These engineers are very talented. Their expertise is engineering public choices.
These engineers manufacture lies that invent consent. Darth Vader-like masters of marketing, they are. They engineer strategies that manipulate specific people to support an special interest’s agenda while believing they are supporting the best thing for themselves.
Consent engineers are in great demand. Their factory runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Their distribution channels include print and broadcast media, the internet, e-mail, word of mouth, and all other marketing pipelines.
No matter what you want people to support, the consent engineers will customize their tactics to manufacture public consent for it. All you need is:
- A product, public figure, policy or ideology you want to promote.
- The willingness to hire consent engineers to create black hat tactics. (“Black hat” is the internet term for unethical internet marketing tactics.)
- The money to pay for the manufacturing run.
The manufacturing of consent has hijacked America – and with it much of the rest of the world.
